David Attenborough Could Be In The Running For Christmas Number One

Anything Rage Against The Machine can do...

Remember that silly year when a load of people joined together on social media to try to get Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' to be top of the charts at Christmas? Well, 2018 could be the year that David Attenborough has his chance.

The naturalist, national treasure, and TV presenter has recently come out with an album of field recordings from earlier in his career and the campaign has already begun to get the first track - a recording of indigenous people in Paraguay - to become Christmas number one.

Let's see if Attenborough can succeed in the same fashion as Rage Against The Machine did back in 2009.

The track is called 'La Llegada (The Arrival)' and it has already enjoyed some airtime after it was played by Jo Whiley and Simon Mayo on BBC Radio 2's Drivetime Show earlier in the week.

The Independent reports that a source at the record label that has released the album said: "We're going to start a campaign: David Attenborough for Christmas number one."

If successful, Attenborough would break the record for the oldest person ever to sit atop the charts. The current holder of that strange but interesting accolade is Tom Jones. He had a hit single for Comic Relief when he was 68 years old.

That single was '(Barry) Islands In The Stream'. Seriously, search for that at your peril.

Anyway, if Attenborough manages to beat off the competition he will surpass Sir Tom's mark by a decent number of years. He is 92 years old, that will be a record that takes some beating.

The album itself is called 'David Attenborough - My Field Recordings from Across the Planet' and it features some recordings from earlier in the BBC stalwart's career, as well as some of his unmistakable narrations.

The whole of the album was actually recorded back in the 1950s and 1960s. Exactly how it has taken this long to be released is anybody's guess. Perhaps they were just waiting for peak Attenborough.

That time is unquestionably now. Dynasties and Blue Planet II have propelled Attenborough back to the forefront of the British consciousness recently, so it is time to cash in on that.

You'll be able to pick up your copy of the whole piece on Friday, but if you want to get the single to the top of the charts for Christmas, you've got to time your run at it.

Let's do this LADs.
