Dr Dre Loses Legal Battle With Gynaecologist Over Trademarking Name

Dr Dre wasn't happy with US-based Dr Drai attempting to register his name

In possibly the weirdest story you'll read today, Dr Dre has lost a three-year-long legal battle with a gynaecologist over trademark infringement.

Back in 2015 Dr Dre - real name Andre Romelle Young - launched a lawsuit against a US-based gynaecologist called Draion M Burch who was attempting to trademark the name Dr Drai, the BBC reports.

Dre, who isn't an actual doctor, said that the similar names could cause 'confusion', particularly because Dr Drai is himself a bit of a media personality and was planning on taking parts in seminars and publishing books.

Meanwhile, Dr Drai said that he had no intentions of attempting to cash in on the popularity of Dr Dre's fame. For a kick off, how would he even go about that? He's probably not going to try and get in touch with Eminem to talk about a possible collab anytime soon, is he?

He also arguing that any association with Dre's reputation would be a 'bad reflection' on his 'as a doctor' adding that some of the hip-hop star's lyrics were misogynistic and homophobic.

He went on to say that it was highly unlikely anyone would confuse the two, 'because Dr Dre is not a medical doctor nor is he qualified to provide any type of medical services or sell products specifically in the medical or healthcare industry', which is reassuring to know. It's also unlikely that Dr Drai is going to start flogging headphones anytime soon.

And the US trademark office appeared to agree, as they ruled that Dr Drai is allowed to register and work under the name Dr Drai.

Dr Drai is the author of a number of books, including 20 Things You May Not Know About The Vagina and it's fully-sold-out follow-up 20 Things You May Not Know About The Penis. Although, if either of those books were written by Dr Dre and not Dr Drai, I reckon I'd be more likely to read them.

Drai added: "I was just appalled how someone would think that I wanted to be them and I actually went to medical school."

Ah, well, it's all over now mate, you can Forget About Dre (sorry).
