The girlfriend of the late rapper XXXTentacion has given birth to a healthy baby boy. Jenesis Sanchez gave birth to Gekyume Onfroy - a name she and the deceased musician decided on before his death - on Saturday.

Both mother and child are healthy and well, and the birth comes just three days after what would have been XXXTentacion's 21st birthday.

The rapper, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, was shot and killed in Broward County, Florida, back in June 2018.

A joint statement issued by Sanchez and Onfroy's mother, Cleopatra Bernard, said: "XXXTentacion's mother, Cleopatra Bernard, and Jenesis Sanchez are thrilled to announce the arrival of baby boy Gekyume Onfroy - born January 26, 2019.

"We're happy to confirm that Baby and Mother are healthy. Gekyume's name is derived from a word X created prior to his passing, which means 'a different state' or 'next' universe of thought.

"XXXTentacion specifically chose this name for his first born son; his family is honoured to fulfil his wish and shower baby Gekyume with love."

Gekyume's birth was announced on Instagram by his XXXTentacion's mother.

Sanchez was already a few months pregnant when the father of her child was killed on 18 June 2018. In recent months, Onfroy's mother had also announced that the baby was on the way, and even posted the child's name on Instagram back in November 2018.

"His name is Gekyume," she said.

Since his death, four men have been charged with Onfroy's murder, which took place outside a motorcycle dealership. The charges include murder with a firearm and armed robbery with a firearm.

However, the troubled musician had something of a rap sheet of his own, with a history of domestic abuse charges. That includes the aggravated battery of a pregnant woman - an ex-girlfriend - and false imprisonment.

Last October, a tape recording was obtained by Pitchfork in which XXXTentacion can allegedly be heard confessing to crimes including stabbings, domestic abuse and assault, in a Miami attorney's office.

In the recording, a voice - allegedly Onfroy - can be heard saying: "I put my source of happiness in another person, which was a mistake initially, right?

"But she fell through on every occasion until now. Until I started fucking her up, bruh. I started fucking her up because she made one mistake. And from there, the whole cycle went down. Now she's scared. That girl is scared for her life. Which I understand."

He didn't go into detail about what had been done to the woman in question, or her name, but added: "I will kill that bitch if she play with me."
