Air New Zealand Praised For Economy Class Seats That Convert Into Beds

They're ideal for long-haul flights or anyone travelling with little ones

Sleeping on a plane isn't the easiest of tasks thanks to the upright seats and lack of leg room - of course, if you're loaded you can treat yourself to a more expensive flight and enjoy a bit of luxury.

The Skycouch seats are ideal for travelling parents.

Sadly, for most of us, this isn't an option, so the news that an airline has created special economy-class seats that convert to beds is creating a bit of a stir on social media.

Air New Zealand allows passengers to purchase the special 'Skycouch' seats for a fraction of the cost of a first-class or business class flight and they offer a much roomier area for flyers.

The Skycouch turns a row of three seats into a makeshift and even comes complete with pillows and bedding, ideal if you're flying long-haul and fancy a bit more room or if you're travelling with little ones.

The seat/bed comes with a special harness for babies and is fitted with cleverly-designed seat-belts for grown ups, meaning they're totally safe if the plane happens to hit with turbulence as you're in the land of nod.

When you opt to get the Skycouch service you'll book out the entire row - so you won't end up sharing a bed with a stranger, which is good news. If you're booking two seats anyway, you'll get the third one for a heavily discounted price.

The seats make long-haul flights a lot more comfortable.

For example, if you're flying from Sydney to Los Angeles you can snap up the add-on for £104 ($200) when making your booking - not bad, eh?

One happy passenger took to Facebook to heap praise on the airline after choosing the upgrade on a recent flight she took with her family.

Melbourne-based blogger Adele Barbaro wrote about her experiences, saying: "We got to experience the Air New Zealand Skycouch on our way here and for those that don't know what it is, it is a unique economy option where your entire row becomes a bed.

The optional add-on turns an entire economy-class row into a bed.

"If there is two of you travelling, you can purchase a third seat at half price and you will get the entire row to yourself.

"The legs rest all rise to meet the chair in front and create a completely flat, large play or sleep area."

She went on to say her, her partner and their two kids all managed to sleep on the flight thanks to the 'beds'. Sounds good to me.
