Andy Murray Goes In On Donald Trump After 'Time Person Of The Year' Tweet

When he's not busy running the United States, playing golf, arguing with sports stars, playing golf, negotiating with world leaders, or playing golf, you're probably already aware that President Donald Trump loves to big himself up on Twitter.

Not content with just being the leader of the free world, The Donald yesterday decided to award himself, then politely decline, Time Magazine's 'Person of the Year'.

He tweeted yesterday, saying: "Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named "Man (Person) of the Year," like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!"

Trump legitimately did win Time Magazine's Person of the Year in 2016, after his shock victory in the US Elections, but following a year of falling approval ratings it remains to be seen whether he's a banker to win it again.

Obviously, everyone on Twitter decided to take the piss following the tweet:

Among those who laid into the president was two-time Wimbledon champion and notorious charisma vacuum, Andy Murray.

He tweeted: "BBC just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!"

Interestingly, Time Magazine has also entered into the debate, suggesting that the President has made the whole thing up.

The magazine's Twitter account, tweeted: "The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6."

The Person of the Year award is given each year to 'the person who had the greatest influence, for better or worse, on the events of the year'.

It isn't the first time Trump has fallen out with the magazine. Earlier this year they revealed that Trump keeps fake covers of the magazine around his Florida resort, Mar-A-Lago, that declare him 'a television smash'.
