Armed Police Close Off Whitehall Following Incident Near Downing Street

Armed police have arrested a man with a 'backpack of knives' in Whitehall.

Officers are on the scene close to Downing Street, according to witnesses.

Some officers in forensic suits were also seen responding to the incident.

London police say they have arrested a man for possession of weapons near the Houses of Parliament.

Eyewitnesses described seeing two large knives on the ground close to the scene of the arrest.

A witness also told the Telegraph the man was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a black top.

There are no reported injuries.
