It's a pretty dumb thing to taunt police on social media when you're on the run, because if you get caught, you're going to look like a damn fool.

That thought didn't seem to cross Damien Kennedy when he took off his GPS ankle tracker in Brisbane and posted on Facebook: "Come get me motherfuckers."

The social media post claimed he was hiding away in Rockhampton, a casual seven hours north from where he first went on the run in Brisbane. But police reckoned he was around Brisbane's south or the Logan area.

Queensland Police issued this statement, saying: "Police are continuing to search for a 28-year-old male offender, supervised under the Dangerous Prisoners Sexual Offenders Act 2003 (DPSOA), who went missing after removing his electronic monitoring strap.

"Damien Kennedy's last known location was in Salisbury."

But less than 48 hours after his 'escape', he was picked up by Highway Patrol Officers in Wollongong, New South Wales, during a routine vehicle stop. He then appeared in Wollongong Local Court where a request had been made for him to be extradited to Queensland to face charges of removing his GPS tracking device.

When the magistrate mentioned the sunshine state, Kennedy said: "Fuck Queensland."

Queensland Police Minister Mark Ryan says it's pretty much certain that the accused will spend at least a year behind bars for the offence. He has been required to wear the device because of his history of rape, attempted rape, and assault.

Kennedy was jailed for nine years in 2008 for raping and assaulting a 49-year-old prostitute in Brisbane. He completed the sex offender rehabilitation program in prison and was subsequently released in 2013, but was being supervised supervised under the Dangerous Prisoners Sexual Offenders Act.

Since his parole four years ago, he's failed not one, not two, but six drugs tests, with meth and marijuana being the most commons substances detected in his system. That caused him to be in an out of prison until he eventually got out and moved in with his mum.

His latest failed drug test was on Monday and not too long after he's accused of taking off his GPS tracking device.

Kennedy isn't the first person to taunt police on social media while they're on the run, no less. Welsh authorites were looking for Martin Tate on charges of assault and posted a picture of him on their Facebook page asking for information.

The 31-year-old commented on the post, saying: "Can't catch me. Hahaha. I see who has the last laugh now".

Unfortunately for Mr Tate, police eventually found him and he was sentenced to five months behind bars.
