People have started taking to Twitter to pay tribute to the DJ including various celebrities.

Fellow DJ, Calvin Harris wrote: "Devastating news about Avicii, a beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do. My heart goes out to his family. God bless you Tim x"

Singer songwriter Dua Lipa tweeted her 1.9 million followers saying: "Such sad news to hear about Avicii passing. Too young and way too soon. My condolences go out to his family, friends and fans x"

Liam Payne has also taken to the social media platform and said: "Oh my god truly devastated for Avicii very very sad news way to young ... what a talent he was. rest in peace x"

Just a few days ago Avicii tweeted "Thanks for the nomination" when he was nominated for the top dance/electronic album at the Billboard Music Awards.

The Swedish musician was nominated twice for a Grammy Award for his work on 'Sunshine' with David Guetta in 2012 and also for his song 'Levels' in 2013.

He hit the top ten in more than fifteen countries and topped the Australian, Swedish, Danish and US charts.

In August 2017 he released a six track EP and said: "I'm really excited to be back with music once again. It has been a long time since I released anything and a long time since I was this excited over new music!

My focus on this first EP of the album was to get a mix of new and old songs: some that fans have been asking about and waiting for mixed with brand new songs that they have never been heard before!"
