Benidorm Holiday Pensioner Explains Her 'Too Many Spanish' Comments

She says her comments were 'taken totally out of context'

Remember the grandmother who complained about her holiday in Benidorm because there was "too many Spanish" holidaymakers in the resort?

Yes, Freda Jackson, from Blackburn, Lancashire, thinks that there are too many holidaymakers in the SPANISH town of Benidorm. Sure, why not?

The 81-year-old then made an attempt to explain her bizarre - and slightly laughable - claim, she said: "The hotel was full of Spanish holidaymakers and they really got on our nerves because they were just so rude.

"One evening a Spanish guy nearly knocked me flying and he just walked off without even apologising.

"The entertainment in the hotel was all focused and catered for the Spanish - why can't the Spanish go somewhere else for their holidays?"

Why, indeed? I mean, we'd all go to Blackpool on our holidays if we had the weather, and Blackpool wasn't Blackpool. Oh wait, no we wouldn't.

Anyway, she claims that her comments were taken badly out of context and has tried to clarify her position.

She told The Mirror that the reaction to her complaint to holiday company Thomas Cook was 'disgusting' and 'a pack of lies'.

Well, in the interests of balance, let's hear her out.

She said: "I never said the Spanish should go to another hotel, just that the hotel didn't cater to English people. It's been totally taken out of context.

"Now people who don't even know me are calling me racist which is just not true.

"I didn't slag the Spanish off at all."

I mean, Blackburn is full of hotels that cater exclusively to the hordes of Spanish tourists that visit the historic mill town every year, so it's absolutely out of order, to be fair.

She claims that she had asked for a hotel in the new town of Benidorm, down by the front where all of the shops are. However, she was sent off to a hotel in the old town where there are more Spanish people.

The pensioner, who worked as a care nurse for much of her career, said that the whole thing was a 'disaster from start to finish' and that she had never made a complaint about a holiday in her life before this incident.

Her mate, who is a 61-year-old friend of Freda, said: "It wasn't the holiday we expected but Freda's comments were exaggerated out of all proportion.

"Freda is a lovely woman. It's upsetting, and it makes me angry the way she's been treated. People have just been laughing at her.

"And now there have been threats made against her online. It's out of order. They've made a laughing stock of her."

Perhaps she was after this?

The hotel that they stayed in stated that the pair only made one complaint whilst there, which was about where her room was. After her complaint, they claim that they changed the room for her.
