Another body has been found in a lake in Cyrpus, as a suspected serial killer appears to have struck again.

The body, which is said to be that of a child, was discovered in a suitcase in the lake.

Another suitcase containing the body of a woman, believed to be the child's mother, was found in the Mistero Red Lake recently.

The suitcase is the second to be found in the lake.

Divers found the suitcase, retrieving it from a lake to the west of country's capital, Nicosia, after a military officer admitted to the murders, and told them where to find them.

The 35-year-old army captain confessed to detectives that he killed five women and two girls, and disposed of three bodies in the man mad lake. He also owned up to killing a Filipino woman and has been in custody since late April.

Police believe the killer has been committing the horrific crimes undetected in Cyprus for almost three years, after meeting most of the women online.

A police official said: "A body has been found decomposed. It is not identifiable and is being taken to the mortuary now for further inquiries."

According to Cyprus police, they have received two written confessions from the man, who met the women online.

The victims disappeared between September 2016 and July to August 2018.

Recently, a YouTuber also realised that she may have inadvertently filmed one of the suitcases when she visited the lake in 2017.

A coroner will examine the remains that have been found to try to formally identify the victim, police spokesman Andreas Angelides said.

Divers are scouring the lake bottom with a sonar device for another suitcase.

The man-made lake is toxic and is tinted red from its history as a British mining spot.

The investigation began a few weeks ago in the country, amid allegations of negligence by the police. Many have commented that police have failed to properly investigate the disappearances, with one of the victims reported missing over two years ago. They are accused of allowing further killings to take place by not beginning the investigation then.

Cyprus's president recently fired the chief of police, because of the delay in the investigation into the women's disappearances.

The justice minister then resigned the day after.

The killer, who was married at the time with two children, was also accused of raping a 19-year-old woman back in 2017 - she was also a foreign citizen.

His detention has been extended for a further eight days to give investigators more time, but he has not yet been named as he hasn't been officially charged.

The suspect represented himself in court Sunday and wore a bulletproof vest, saying he had no objections to the detention renewal.
