Instagram Couple Ask Strangers To Fund African 'Adventure' After Admitting To Mum Supporting Their Travels

An Instagram couple are asking strangers to fund their holiday to Africa after admitting that one of their mums is already working two jobs to fund their travelling lifestyle.

Catalin Onc and Elena Engelhardt, from Germany, rely on Catalin's mother for financial support which didn't sit well with fans considering that the married couple have now set up a GoFundMe page to pay for a tandem bike ride from Germany to Africa in July.

They have set a target of $10,000 (£7,950) to fund the African 'adventure' and inevitably Instagram the entire thing to their 34,000 followers. Up to now they have only raised $200 (£158) by six people in eight days.

Despite asking nicely for donations, their requests haven't gone down too well with people hitting back at them for using Catalin's mother's money and not getting jobs of their own.

But, according to the pair, 'getting a job is not an option' and would be 'detrimental'.

In fact, they wrote about it saying: "Some will just tell us to get jobs, like everyone else and stop begging. But when you have the impact we do on others' life, getting a job is not an option.

"We could model and make fast money, but we don't want to advertise consumerism. A normal job at this point would be detrimental."

The MailOnline reported that when sharing details of how they pay for their lifestyle, Catalin explained: "At this very moment, my mother is funding us, she works two jobs and has not much herself. We didn't ask her for money but she loves that she is able to help.

As expected this went down like a lead balloon, with one person commenting on their Instagram page, saying: "lovers, travels, "dream chasers?" Sponging off your poor mum more like how embarrassing and shameful..."

Another added: "I'm confused your page is just pictures of you? How is that inspiring people? Feel real sorry for your mother. I'd say we could set up a GoFundMe for her but I feel like you would steal that money off her also.

"Don't get a job if you don't want to, but don't ask people that do work for their money and giving exactly zero back. Be nicer to your mother".

A third wrote: "Shame on both of you for using your parents. If u want this lifestyle, you work for it. Your mom has done more than her share. Don't be so entitled".

Ouch.
