Couple Watch On As Cruise Ship Leaves Them Stranded In The Bahamas

Couple Watch On As Cruise Ship Leaves Them Stranded In The Bahamas

The pair were on the sixth day of a seven day cruise and were about to head home when disaster struck

Cruises are billed as the relaxing way to travel - you hop on a boat and head off into the horizon, but that wasn't quite how things panned out for one couple, who were left stranded at one of their destinations.

And to add insult to injury, the painful moment was caught on camera for all to see. Just what they needed.

That said, there are worse places to be stranded.

The couple had been enjoying their final day of a seven-day cruise and were all set to leave the tropical island of Nassau, in the Bahamas, and head back to port in Miami, the United States.

But according to the onlooker who shot the excruciatingly embarrassing footage, the hapless couple arrived too late.

In the video they say the last call for boarding came at 3.30pm but the tardy pair came trundling along a whole 50 minutes later, after the ship's crew had already begun removing ropes, closing the gangway and hatch, before beginning their departure.

Apparently the duo had no choice but to watch on as the Royal Caribbean liner, Symphony of the Seas, set sail and left them stood on shore, laden with bags and feeling pretty stupid.

The couple then try on last attempt to catch the crew's attention, waving frantically from shore, but as the ship's propeller begins to thrash through the water they eventually realise that it's just not their day.

Other passengers - who managed to make it on time - can be seen looking down at the forlorn pair as they pull away.

According to reports, if the couple had been late while on a tour booked through Royal Caribbean then they may have had some help with finishing the final leg of their journey.

But if it was because of an independent tour or a fault of their own then it's unlikely this would be the case.

If this cautionary tale hasn't put you off however, earlier this month the cruise giant announced it was looking for someone to be it's next 'shore explorer' and travel the world.

You will earn £2,000 ($2,600) each week for three weeks, which is the equivalent to an annual salary of £104,000.

Building on the success of its 'Intern-ship' programme two years ago, the lucky candidate will act as apprentice to Royal Caribbean's Instagrammer-in-Chief, Russ Francis, who was appointed the role following his application in 2016.

The chosen one will go on the global trip, seeking out new land-based experiences that will ultimately influence the brand's shore excursion programme for 2019 and beyond.

Their only daily task will be capturing their experiences on Instagram, Insta-Stories and IGTV. Sounds like a bloody doddle.
