The Shape of Water has won best picture at the 90th Academy Awards. It had 14 nominations at this year's awards and won an impressive four.

The winner was up against Call Me By Your Name, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk, Get Out, Lady Bird, Phantom Thread, The Post and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Accepting the award, Guillermo del Toro said: "A few weeks ago, Steven Spielberg said, 'If you find yourself on the podium, remember that you are part of a world of filmmakers, and be proud of it'.

"I want to dedicate this to every young filmmaker that is showing us how things are done, really they are. In every country in the world.

"When I was a kid enamoured with movies, growing up in Mexico, I thought this could never happen, it happens.

"Everyone that is using the genre of fantasy to tell the story about things that are happening in the world today, you can do it. This is a door, kick it open and come in."

This year's best picture award went off without a hitch - unlike last year, when the wrong name was announced before the mistake was hurriedly fixed, but not before the cast of La La Land had begun celebrating an award they hadn't won.

Oh and in case you're wondering, Mark Bridges who won the best costume design for Phantom Thread was the lucky chap to win the jet-ski for giving the shortest acceptance speech.

He was snapped on it, alongside Dame Helen Mirren. So, winners all 'round.
