Former US President George HW Bush has died age 94 - Bush was the 41st president and saw the country through the break up of the Soviet Union and the Iraq invasion of Kuwait during his one term in office between 1989 and 1993.
In his youth Bush served in World War II as a naval navigator and was a Texas oil pioneer. Bush is also the father of another former president, George W Bush who lead the country over two terms between the years of 2001 and 2009.
A statement was released from his office, it said: "George Herbert Walker Bush, World War II naval aviator, Texas oil pioneer, and 41st President of the United States of America, died on November 30, 2018.
"He was 94 and is survived by his five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two siblings. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Barbara; his second child Pauline Robinson 'Robin' Bush; and his brothers Prescott and William or 'Bucky' Bush. Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as is practical."
The current US president Donald Trump has tweeted about Bush's passing praising his "sound judgment, common sense and unflappable leadership".
The former president was eager to stay active even as he got older and for his 90th birthday he performed a parachute jump - almost 70 years after he first jumped from an aircraft.
