The teenager who egged Australian Senator Fraser Anning has developed quite a following online after his stunt.

Will Connolly, 17, stood behind the controversial politician as he was giving a press conference after releasing a statement following the Christchurch terror attack essentially saying it was Muslim peoples' fault for the tragedy.

As Mr Anning was speaking, the teen pulled out his phone and filmed himself whacking an egg onto the Senator's head. The politician turned around and assaulted Mr Connolly twice before people tackled the boy to the ground.

In the days since the incident, several GoFundMe pages have sprung up, raising cash for Connolly.

The biggest has attracted more than $44,000 in donations. Will has instructed that the money should go to the victim's families of the Christchurch attack where 50 people were killed at two mosques.

Not only that, but bands and artists like The Hilltop Hoods and Violent Soho have tweeted messages of support for the teen, and offered him tickets for life to their gigs.

Senator Anning hasn't backed down on his retaliation, saying Connolly deserved it.

During a press conference, the politician said: "He got a slap across the face, which is what his mother should have given him long ago, because he's been misbehaving badly.

"When somebody cracks you in the back of your head, you react and defend yourself.

"That for years is what Australians have been doing, luckily they did that in the trenches otherwise we'd be all speaking German now."

On Sunday morning, Connolly shared a video in which he warned fans against cracking eggs on the heads of politicians.

Connolly said: "Don't egg a politician, you'll get tackled by 30 bogans at the same time, I learnt the hard way, fuck."

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the Senator should face the full extent of the law and also criticised Senator Anning for the press release he sent out.

Mr Morrison said: "The remarks by Senator Fraser Anning blaming the murderous attacks by a violent, right-wing, extremist terrorist in New Zealand on immigration are disgusting. These views have no place in Australia, let alone in the Australian Parliament."

A Change.org petition has been started, calling for Senator Anning to be removed from parliament. While a petition like that won't actually work, more than 1.2 million people have signed it.
