Halloween costumes vary greatly in quality. At the bottom end of the scale you have people who inexplicably pretend to be a cat or a rabbit by painting their noses or sticking a ball of fluff to their arses, and at the top end of the scale you have Heidi Klum.

The model, fashion designer and actress has earned herself a reputation as the queen of Halloween thanks to her unrivalled devotion to costumes.

Last night, she hosted her 19th annual Halloween party in New York, which predictably was attended by a bagful of stars, including Neil Patrick Harris and Mel B.

In previous years, Klum has stunned crowds with prosthetic transformations that have left her completely unrecognisable. In 2013, she spent 10 hours transforming into a creepily realistic old woman and in 2011 she pretty much turned into a chimpanzee for the event.

This year she lived up to her own unrivalled standards, bringing Princess Fiona from Shrek to life alongside her boyfriend Tom Kaulitz, who metamorphosed into her ogre husband. The pair arrived in a fairy-tale style chariot and even pushed a pram with little ogre babies in it.

Klum's costumes have developed a cult following through the years and she had been teasing fans with a countdown on her social media account prior to the event.

Writing on Twitter, she said: "I love going all out and completely transforming into a character for #HeidiHalloween. That's the best part of the holiday!"

When it turned out Mike Myers - the voice of Shrek in the animated movies - they naturally had to pose for a photo:

The 45-year-old posted a series of throwbacks to previous outfits before sharing videos documenting the lengthy prosthetic process that transformed her from a model to an ogre.

Judging by the reaction on Twitter, it seems fans were not disappointed by her latest offering.

One person said: "Well Heidi Klum has won Halloween yet again! With her boyfriend Tom Kaulitz as Shrek and Fiona. Incredible."

Another said: "Heidi Klum IS Halloween. She cannot be beaten."

Next year, remember not to bother trying with your costume, because somewhere Heidi Klum will no doubt be putting your pitiful efforts to shame.
