A man was hospitalised after it was discovered he'd been injecting himself with his own semen for 18 months.
The 33-year-old unnamed Irish man is being treated in Dublin for a subcutaneous abscess on his right arm after injecting his ejaculate on a monthly basis, in a bid to cure his back pain.
In a report from the Irish Medical Journal, it states how the man got a sudden onset of lower back pain after lifting a heavy steel object and from that devised the idea of his bizarre 'treatment'.

The case study reads: "The patient disclosed that he had intravenously injected his own semen as an innovative method to treat back pain.
"He had devised this 'cure' independent of any medical advice. Upon further interrogation of this alternative therapy, he revealed he had injected one monthly 'dose' of semen for 18 consecutive months using a hypodermic needle which had been purchased online.
"Upon this occasion the patient had injected three 'doses' of semen intra-vascularly and intra-muscularly."
However, the 'doses' caused a red rash on his right upper arm. When the doctors fully examined him, which included an x-ray, they discovered the semen had leaked into the soft tissue of his arm.

"This patient's back pain improved over the course of his inpatient stay and he opted to discharge himself without availing of an incision and drainage of the local collection," the journal said.
Unsurprisingly, the Irish medical authors say the case is 'the first ever described case of intravascular semen injection and associated abscess in the medical literature'.
However, it did say that there was a known report on 'the effects of subcutaneous semen injection into rats and rabbits' - lucky animals.

The study went on to say this situation must be taken as a warning and "demonstrates the risks involved with medical experimentation prior to extensive clinical research in the form of phased trials inclusive of safety and efficacy assessments."
After treatment in hospital, it's been reported the man's back pain has improved - however it appears he discharged himself from hospital without actually having any incision made to - or draining from - the build-up in his upper arm.
