Picture the scene: you're happily planting some potatoes in your garden when you stumble across a human skull - terrifying enough, right?

But then imagine, panic-stricken, you rush over to tell your 60-year-old wife, the woman you love more than any other person on the planet, and she calmly says: "Don't worry - it's my first husband."

Scary eh?

Well this living nightmare was the reality for a man in Luzion, a small village in Siberia.

After dropping that initial bombshell, she added: "Bury the remains again, forget about it, and we won't tell the police."

She confessed to murdering her husband, who was aged 52 at the time of his death, after he came home drunk and started to beat her. She says she hit the man with an axe, chopped him up and buried him in the potato patch.

When questioned about her husband's whereabouts, she told people that her husband had simply failed to return home from work one day.

Despite his wife's pleas, husband number two did report the crime to the police. Can't say I blame him on that one.

When officers arrived and began to question the unnamed woman, she admitted what she had done. She even took part in a reconstruction to show cops how she managed to dismember the body, which was probably fairly terrifying for her current hubby.

A search of the potato patch revealed more bones.

She was subsequently placed under house arrest while police investigate. She will face a charge of wilful killing, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years. Am I the only one who thinks that seems quite short?

One local resident told reporters: "By planting potatoes this man may have saved his own life."

You're not wrong there, pal. I bet that man will never complain about doing the gardening again.
