A man tragically live streamed his own murder on Facebook after a gunman opened fire in North Carolina.

Prentis Robinson was recording himself walking down a road with a selfie stick when a man was seen to approach him and fire four shots.

Moments before his death, Prentis could be heard talking about wanting to move to Atlanta, when a man wearing a blue jacket appears.

Prentis spotted the gun and calmly told the man, 'You on Live' repeatedly, before four shots can be heard.

He was found by police after suffering gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Daily Mail reports.

Police have named the killer as Douglas Colson. He is yet to be caught. It's not known if the two men knew each other.

The incident took place close to Wingate University, which was locked down following the murder.

Tony Underwood, a spokesperson from Union County Sheriff, said: "We're pursuing leads and trying to figure out what this is all about."

Shortly before he was shot, Prentis had been at the Wingate Police Department to talk about his phone being stolen.

According to Fox News, Prentis had previously been 'outing drug dealers' on Facebook, with family members telling the news outlet he would 'help police find drug dealers'.
