Firefighters are working to extinguish a pretty ferocious looking fire on a 12-storey building in Manchester's Northern Quarter.
Photos and videos posted on social media show flames and smoke billowing out from an apartment on the ninth level.

Manchester Fire released a short statement on Twitter, saying: "We're currently tackling a fire on the 9th floor of a 12-storey building on Joiner Street in Manchester's Northern Quarter. Please avoid the area if possible and keep windows and doors shut if you live nearby."
They add that a dozen fire trucks rushed to the scene and paramedics have arrived to see if there are any injuries.

The local firefighting agency has posted an update on Twitter, writing: "Firefighting in still ongoing and one casualty has been taken to hospital suffer by smoke inhalation. Please avoid the area as roads are still shut."
