A mass shooting at a video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, has resulted in 'multiple fatalities', according to the sheriff's office.

Taking to Twitter the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office warned people to stay away from the Jacksonville Landing - urging people: 'please don't come running out'. The Landing is a shopping, dining and entertainment complex within the city centre, where the tournament was being held.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office one suspect is now dead at the scene and officers are working to determine if there was just one shooter.

In a harrowing clip from a livestream multiple shots can be heard, before the video cuts out.

According to the Mirror, one unnamed witness said: "I was just getting my pizza and then heard shots. It was scary."

Another tweeted to say he was 'lucky' after a bullet hit his thumb.

The sheriff's office has since tweeted telling anyone currently still hiding to call 911 to let cops know of their location and has reassured members of the public that the SWAT team are working through the area.

EA Sports - the company behind the Madden NFL game series - has released a short statement to say it is aware of the incident and will be working with authorities to 'gather facts' at this stage.

It went on to say: "This is a horrible situation, and our deepest sympathies go out to all involved."
