Tragic footage has emerged that shows a deaf-mute Chinese man locked inside a small stone room outside his mothers house.

Wang Zhiqiang has been locked up in the out-house for more than 10 years because of his psychological issues.

Zhiqiang was born without the ability to speak or hear but was still a smart kid, so his parents sent him away to a boarding school for children with special needs.

While he was at the school he was hideously bullied and suffered significant trauma.

This meant that he developed severe mental health problems. His family did not have the money to get him the expensive medical help that he needed and had to resort to the last heartbreaking alternative when his mental disorders became a danger to others.

His mother, Yue Rong, said: "He wasn't able to go to school any more, and his condition worsened while staying at home.

"It reached a point where he was attacking other villagers."

"I had no choice but to chain him up and lock him in the room. It's been more than 10 years."

After the death of his father and because of Wang's worsening mental state, he had to be restrained in the tiny stone building near their house in Denfeng City, Henan.

His mother continued: "When his father was still alive, he was able to take care of him, but when his dad passed away 12 years ago, I couldn't handle him on my own."

Zhiqiang's sister, Wang Shufen has also spoken of how horrific it is to see her brother imprisoned like an animal outside the house.

She said: "I wish it were me chained up and that my brother were free instead.

"You never saw the times, while he was still lucid, when he begged my family to let him out."

In the footage, which shows the last meeting between the two siblings she inspects the welts and wounds that the shackles that tether him to the wall have made to his wrists.

She is filmed crying throughout the footage.

Zhiqiang is also seen drinking from a metal bowl and eating sitting down on the floor. At one stage he stamps his foot angrily on the ground, suggesting that his psychological disorders remain and that he still urgently needs help.

The party secretary of the village of Xuanhua, Ding Yanfang said: "When Zhiqiang was still a boy, he was very smart despite being deaf-mute.

"When he returned from the special needs school with mental problems, there was little we could do. It was heart breaking."
