A body discovered in a building site in Manchester city centre has been identified as university student Charlie Bartlett.

The 19-year-old had been missing since attending the student union's Owens Park ball at the Principal hotel on Oxford Street Saturday night.

He was last seen near Sound Control nightclub.

In a Facebook plea, his elder brother, Harry Bartlett, wrote of the disappearance: "Charlie Bartlett, my little brother, has gone missing in Manchester for over 24 hours now. If anyone has or does see him, or knows anything please get in contact with me.

"He was last seen at Sound Control on New Wakefield Street after going to the Owens Park ball at The Principal (he will most likely still be in black tie).

"Please can you spread this to anyone you know in Manchester - it is massively appreciated!"

Emergency services were called to the building site on Charles Street, off Oxford Road, on Monday morning after a body was discovered. The site was the former location of BBC studios, which is now being turned into student flats.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokeswoman said: "Shortly before 7.50am on Monday, May 8, 2017, police were called to reports that a body had been found on Oxford Road in Manchester city centre.

"Officers attended and discovered the body of a 19-year-old man.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a file is being prepared for the coroner."

A University of Manchester spokesman said: "The police have informed us of the death of one of our students. University staff are working to provide support to his family and we are offering counselling to all students who have been affected by this incident."

Last month a man was found dead just a few minutes away in the city's Northern Quarter.

He was identified as being 20 years of age but his death remains unsolved.

A police spokesman said: "The post-mortem into the death of the man found on Spear Street in the Northern Quarter yesterday has taken place but was inconclusive and the cause of death remains unknown at this time.

"Police have now managed to identify the man and his next of kin have been informed. He is 20 years-old."
