Morgan Freeman has spoken out to 'apologise' after allegations of sexual misconduct have been made against him.

In an article published earlier today, CNN reported that 'multiple people' had alleged that the star had behaved inappropriately around females he worked with.

The news outlet spoke to 16 people - eight claimed to be victims, the other eight said they had witnessed incidents.

Addressing the allegations, Freeman told Sky News: "Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy.

"I apologise to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected - that was never my intent."

One of the women who spoke to CNN accused the 80-year-old actor of repeatedly attempting to lift up her skirt and asking her if she was wearing underwear.

The incidents are alleged to have happened on set, while promoting movies and at his production company - Revelations Entertainment.

Three entertainment reporters alleged that Freeman made 'inappropriate' comments during interviews with him.

Another woman said her and other females who worked with Freeman knew 'not to wear any top that would show our breasts' or to wear anything fitted.

She went on to say that Freeman 'sexually harassed her and her female assistant on numerous occasions by making comments about their bodies'.

One woman says he pressed himself against her while posing for a photograph after 'staring at her breasts', calling it 'inappropriate'.

The US news broadcaster also reported that it spoke to a number of people who said they never witnessed Freeman carrying out 'questionable behaviour' and others who said he was 'consummate professional on set and in the office.'

Freeman's career spans almost five decades, staring in a number of iconic movies including The Shawshank Redemption and Seven. He won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in Million Dollar Baby - he was also nominated for his performances in Street Smart, Driving Miss Daisy, The Shawshank Redemption and Invictus.
