Keith Vaz is having a bad day. A very bad day. Until this morning he was the minister in charge of heading up an upheaval in prostitution laws in the UK as the chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee.

He's since resigned from the position.

Why's he resigned?

Well, you couldn't make it up really.

Vaz, 59, and a married man of two, and party member for Labour since 1987 with Leicester East as his constituency, is paying escorts for sex and has been implicated in offering to pay for Class A drugs as well, the Sunday Mirror reports.

Just eight days ago he met with two Eastern European male escorts, spoke about previous sexual encounters and offered to pay for cocaine. He met them at his flat on Edgware Road, London. This flat is less than two miles away from his family home.

In a video from The Mirror, he also makes other revelations.

He also texts on a separate occasion, joking about being one the men's pimp.

Money was also paid to one of the men from a charity set up by Mr Vaz.

In more text messages, he asked, after he found out a Romanian Escort would be joining him along with someone else: "How will this work? Do you want me to fuck him first or all together?"

Vaz was sitting as chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee and recently said that he was 'not convinced' that men who pay for sex should face any kind of prosecution. He had been chairing this committee since 2007 until today.

He resigned from the position, telling the Mail On Sunday:

"I am genuinely sorry for the hurt and distress that has been caused by my actions in particular to my wife and children.

"I will be informing the committee on Tuesday of my intention to stand aside from chairing the sessions of the committee with immediate effect."
