An Australian mother has spoken of her horror after her child reportedly picked up a capsule of 'MDMA' and put it in her mouth while playing in a park.

According to the mother, she and her daughter were enjoying a morning at Kalinga Park in Brisbane, Queensland, on Wednesday, when they made the disturbing discovery.

It's understood the shocked mum reported the incident to Hendra Police Station and officers went to the park to search for more discarded the drugs.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, a Queensland Police spokesman confirmed the item was found in the park and inquiries were ongoing.

Taking to Reddit, the mother posted a photograph of the alleged capsule in her hand, which appeared to have white crystals inside.

The concerned mum posted a picture of the drugs to Reddit.

She wrote: "Just caught my 1 yr old child picking this up of the grass and putting it in her mouth in kalinga park this morning!"

Commenting on the story, users said it could have ended much worse as the child could have died if they had swallowed the MDMA capsule.

One user said: "That's scary, can't imagine a 1 year old's brain or heart would respond well to that."

A second concerned person wrote: "Wow that's awful. I'm so happy that you spotted it, it could've been a very different story. Talk about needing eyes in the back of your head when you become a parent. Staying vigilant can be quite draining."

A third said: "Thank you for sharing. I always feel nervous at that park because there are way too many areas to do a proper check before the kids start playing (and lots of blind-spots where you can't see where your kid has gone)."

Another added: "MD cap, looks a bit washed out. Wonder if it's actually shard. Either way, not great. Kalinga park is a dark and convenient place for neighborhood kids to have a few bongs etc by the playground / 'skatepark', but that's not the extent of activities there after dark."

According to the Courier Mail, figures released earlier this year reportedly showed that Queensland has become the drug lab capital of Australia.

One third of all 432 drug labs found by police have been discovered in Queensland.

Not only that, but the Courier Mail has also revealed that there's been a 530 percent jump in the amount of heroin seized.

The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission's Illicit Drug Data 2017-18 report shows there were 141 drug labs found in Queensland, compared to 86 in New South Wales and 98 in Victoria.
