New Pill Could Stop Premature Ejaculation And Help Blokes Last Four Times Longer
A new drug is being trialled to help men who suffer with premature ejaculation.
More than 200 men are currently taking part in the trial of the drug called cligosiban, which if found to work could help the one in three people who currently struggle with the problem.
It works by stopping oxytocin from binding to cells in the body and blocking off it off, which could delay an orgasm.
The new trial comes after a study of 88 men at Tulane University School of Medicine, in the US, who were asked to take the new drug or a placebo every day.
At the start of the six-week trial, the average time for the men to orgasm was 33 seconds. However, the men who took the drug saw their time increase 3.8-fold - more than twice the effects of those taking the placebo.
Now, 220 men are taking place in another placebo-controlled trial, in 29 centres in the United States.
According to a research carried out by the NHS, the average time for a man to orgasm during sex is 5.5 minutes - though there is a clear variance.
And though there is no specific rule on how long sex should last for, premature ejaculation - which is when it takes less than a minute to orgasm - has been linked to depression and stress.
Speaking to the Sun, Dr Sarah Jarvis said it can be down to a combination of physical and mental issues.
She said: "We don't know precisely how many men have it because embarrassment stops many of them from seeking medical help, but it may be up to one in three men.
"It can have a huge impact on confidence and often affects relationships, and can even lead to depression. In fact, I often see men coming in for the first time to talk about it when it has led to the break-up of a relationship."
The NHS has a list of techniques for people to couples to try themselves, including masturbating an hour or two before sex, using a thick condom, and taking breaks during sex to talk about something boring - Brexit maybe.
They also advocated the 'squeezing' technique, where a partner masturbates another, stopping at regular intervals and squeezing the head of the penis for 10 to 20 seconds, before resuming.
