Strewth! Parts Of Australia To Be Blasted With Freezing Conditions

Temperatures will get as low as -3 in some parts

Most people think of Australia as the land with endless summers.

Sure, it gets seriously hot during the summer to the point where roads start to melt, but they also experience some pretty cold temperatures.

That will certainly be felt across parts of the continent for the rest of the week as Aussies say goodbye to autumn and fully embrace the beauty that is winter.

According to Weatherzone, Victoria, Tasmania and Canberra are the places likely to experience the worst conditions, with temperatures hovering around a lovely -3 to -1 degrees. That's brilliant for anyone wanting to go skiing, but not so great for anyone else.

Meteorologist Graeme Brittain told the Daily Mail: "We've seen some quite blistery conditions over South Australia, Victoria and it's heading towards Tasmania now."

Brisbane is set to have the coldest start to winter in 12 years due to an approaching cold front with minimum temps as low as eight to nine degrees.

Now, look, people in colder parts of the world will laugh at the idea of Queensland's capital shivering through conditions like that, but considering it has a record high temperature during summer of 41.7 degrees, you can see that this is a big deal.

There have already been warnings that Down Under could have its worst winter in years.

Queensland-based weather expert Dave Taylor told the Daily Mail: "A reduction in sun spots is the cause of the cold snap, and predicts the freezing winters will end with a severe weather event - likely widespread flooding - that will be worse than Australia has ever experienced."

He's not been far off considering there was a decent amount of flooding that affected the country's north-east as a result of Cyclone Iris.

Taylor continued: "I think Brisbane will experience a winter like Sydney, Sydney will feel like Melbourne, and Melbourne will feel like Tasmania."

He continued to say that the minimum temperatures in each major city could be 3C colder than they've been in recent years, adding: "We will have a lot more big Antarctic blows reaching toward Australia - they will be a lot more powerful than in recent years."

Again, this will be a big win for anyone skiing in the New South Wales or Victorian slopes, but pretty shitty for everyone else. But considering that winter will only last until around August, Aussies don't have to endure the painful conditions for very long.
