People who live in retirement villages don't usually get to have a lot of fun.

While staff at the facilities try to chuck on an old fashioned movie or even some boardgames, it's not as if it's party central.

However, one village in Perth, Western Australia, was trying to be just that over the weekend.

The Karrinyup Lakes Lifestyle Village, located in Gwelup, held a bit of a rave to give those movers and shakers something to move and shake.

Everything was going according to plan: the band was busting out some sick beats from the 'good ol' days', the party lights were casting the outside area in a beautiful tinge of purple and red, the tables were stacked with pizza and everyone seemed to be having a brilliant time.

There were around 90 people who rocked up to the event, which included some from the retirement village and others from the surrounding areas.

But then something happened that you just would not expect: a neighbour made a noise complaint.

According to 6PR radio, the council was notified by someone living nearby that the noise coming from the Karrinyup Lakes Lifestyle Village was a little too loud for their liking.

Party host Kerry Bessen had already told the local council that they would be having the party as a way to prevent gatecrashers.

However, Ms Bessen never thought it was going to be them in trouble. She added that City of Stirling rangers rocked up to their gates and asked for the party to be shut down.

"They said they'd had noise complaints and where was my permit," she told the West Australian. "It's a bit intimidating... others in the village felt a bit threatened.

"It certainly wouldn't have gone until 3am."

A City spokesperson has released a statement, which said: "A member of the City's security team attended the Karrinyup Lakes Lifestyle Village concerning the volume of the music being played by a live band at the time."

Despite the average age of the attendees being around 70 or 80, the rangers were serious and the party was stopped at 10.30pm.

Guess you can have too much fun.
