Scams, eh? Whether it's a 'distant acquaintance' messaging you over Facebook, an email claiming that you're entitled to hundreds of thousands from a Nigerian prince, or Eric Smith 'from Barclays' telling you your card could physically combust in your pocket, they're all a massive pain.
But the latter has quite possibly taken things up a level - Cheshire Police have dubbed it the 'worst scam ever' and it's pretty easy to see why.
The letter, sent out to some Barclays customers, claimed that cards had been catching fire inside customer's pockets which they were treating as a 'matter of the uppermost emergency'. LOLs.

The letter went on to advise debit card holders to complete a form and send it - alongside their card - to the 'safety manager' whose address is: Barclays Debit Card Factory, 187 Bangalore Lane, Bangalore, India. Seems legit.
Don't forget, guys, if you don't send it you may be at risk of being 'terribly' burned...
After many people called out the scam for being, well, absolutely unbelievable, the man responsible has been revealed.

According to the Manchester Evening News, it turns out this 'letter' was created last year by Simon Harris, who runs a blog called Man Behaving Dadly.
He wrote: "Although it has been reported that a number of homeowners have received this letter, the simple truth is that it was a joke letter that I created last year to try and raise awareness of the problem that there are millions of people on the internet who will literally believe anything".
He added: "Sorry to burst any bubbles, but it was just little old me d***ing around on the Internet in the never-ending quest for shares and likes, and it worked. Sort of."

Er... well done, I guess?
