He had previously been moved to a suicide-watch unit after being found unconscious in his cell with marks on his neck on July 23.

Epstein, who was once friends with Donald Trump, who flew on his private jet in 1997, had been accused of paying girls under the age of 18 to perform sex acts at his mansions in Manhattan and Florida.

The crimes are said to have been committed between 2002 and 2005, but was arrested in New Jersey on 6 July after landing on his private jet.

CNN have reported that unreleased documents allegations against Jeffrey Epstein and his inner circle. The main accusations in the 2015 defamation case are allegations by a woman, Virginia Roberts Giuffre.

She claims that Epstein kept her as a teenage 'sex slave' and that he was helped by a British woman, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Giuffre is potentially the best-known of Epstein's supposed victims because she has claimed that Epstein forced her to perform sex acts with a number of prominent men, including Prince Andrew, Duke of York, in 2001.

In response to the allegations, Buckingham Palace released a statement, which read: "This relates to proceedings in the United States, to which The Duke of York is not a party. Any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors is categorically untrue."

She has also made claims of being sexually abused by lawyer Alan Dershowitz.

In a bid to avoid spending time in jail, lawyers for the financier offered his mansion and private jet as part of a bail package. Epstein, who in 2008 pleaded guilty to a single charge of sex with a minor as part of a controversial plea deal, also owns a private island.
