While Even Stevens fans might have thought that on-screen siblings Christy Carlson Romano and Shia LaBeouf were close, Christy has now explained that isn't the case 'in reality'. Watch her explanation in the video below:

However, in a video posted to her YouTube channel, Christy has directly addressed their relationship and revealed that their closeness didn't actually go beyond the screen.
She said: "I'm honoured that people would think I'd still be in touch with him, because it means that we did a really good job of making you think we were real life brother and sister.
"But in reality, it just wasn't like that.

"I didn't know a lot of the backstories that came out about where [LaBeouf's family] were living at that time and how much hardship they'd seen and stuff like that.
"I just kick myself because I really do kind of wish, if I'd known anything about him, I could have been a little bit more... I don't know, patient."
Chrissy - who went on to voice the lead character in popular cartoon Kim Possible - said her frustrations with LaBeouf may have originated when he won a 2003 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series.

She explained: "I was sitting there with the rest of our team and he thanked everybody at the table but he didn't thank me.
"I was hurt at the time because I felt like from day one, it was him and me. It was like our show. But because it was so life or death for him, it was his show. And I was just around because I was a girl."
However, she did admit to respecting her former co-star's work.

"Shia, if you see this, know that I love you," she said.
"I'm sorry we didn't connect well when we were kids. And I hope that you are taking it one day at a time.
"Be well, because I'll always love you."
Even Stevens aired from 2000 to 2003 and featured 65 episodes. It revolved around the Stevens family, who resided in the California city of Sacramento, with storylines frequently revolving around the differing personalities of younger children Ren and Louis.

LaBeouf went on to star in critically acclaimed films such as the first three Transformers movies (from 2007, 2009 and 2011), Disturbia (2007) and Honey Boy (2019), among others.
In 2020 he was sued by ex-partner FKA Twigs for sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress. In his response he admitted he had long been 'abusive' to himself and those around him, adding that he was 'ashamed' while apologising to those he had hurt.
In the wake of the lawsuit, he went on hiatus from his acting career and began receiving treatment at an inpatient facility.
