I imagine most of us would find the idea of a private island in the middle of The Bahamas pretty freakin' tempting. The waves lapping at your feet as the sun beams down, a cold beer in one hand, a rum punch in the other... Absolute bliss.

The only problem with that blissful scenario? The small issue that you can't afford it, of course.

Thankfully, there's a way you can enjoy your own personal (well, kind of) idyll in the Caribbean - you just have to get yourself onto a cruise.

Royal Caribbean has officially opened up its new $250 million (£191 million) private island in the Bahamas, which is available to passengers on the company's ships.

Perfect Day at CocoCay features everything from a 135ft-tall waterslide and a 1,600ft-long zipline course through to a chill-out zone and restaurants, meaning you can feed your inner daredevil or simply kick back and relax.

"This isn't vacation days spent. This is bragging rights earned," the website says.

"With one-of-a-kind ways to thrill and chill, all in the same day. Like conquering the tallest water slide in North America, and snapping a shot from 450 feet up in a helium balloon. A drink at the swim-up bar in the Bahamas' largest freshwater pool. Or a taste of Bora Bora in the only private overwater cabanas in the Bahamas.

"This is Perfect Day at CocoCay - only on Royal Caribbean."

The island is home to 13 water slides - including one called Daredevil's Peak, which is 135ft tall - a 1,600ft zipline course, a wave pool and a giant helium balloon giving visitors a view of the island from the dizzying height of 450ft.

"We are so proud to bring our 50-year legacy of innovation ashore to transform an incredible island that now completely revolutionises private destinations in the vacation industry," said Michael Bayley, Royal Caribbean International's president and CEO, in a statement.

People are already excited to go and check it out, with one person commenting on the Royal Caribbean blog: "We will be there in a few short weeks (May 27) and have a cabana booked at Thrill Waterpark. I'm looking forward to racing my kids on the slides, enjoying the wave pool, and of course relaxing in the cabana with some frosty beverages."

Another said: "Can't wait for my first visit in December. Looking forward to trying the water slides and relaxing on the beach."

There's more to come, too, as later this year Royal Caribbean will add yet another area to the island paradise.

The overwater cabanas will also launch in December.

Coco Beach Club will open in December, with the Bahamas' first overwater cabanas - each with its own slide into the ocean. There will also be a 2,600ft beachfront infinity pool and a club and deck area.

According to CNN, Royal Caribbean also has plans to launch private islands elsewhere in the Caribbean, as well as in Asia and Australia.
