A seven-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after he crashed a stolen car at around 100mph in an attempt to see his mum.

Chance Nichols, from Oklahoma, was involved in a high-speed collision on Boxing Day, with police saying he is lucky to be alive after the car flipped three times. Nichols wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Cyndi, Chance's mum, told News 9 that she had been fighting for custody of her son for several years following a breakup with his dad.

She said: "I know that he did this, he chose to pick those keys up. However, if he would've had the right parental guidance, he should not have been able to get to those keys.

"Chance needs parental guidance and he doesn't have it right now. He is like a seven-year-old on his own.

"That is not the Chance that I raised."

The news outlet reported the youngster had been dropped off a friend's house by his dad, where he spotted the keys and took the car.

After stealing the keys and taking the car, Chance sideswiped another vehicle on the road, with the occupants telling police the driver was "intoxicated or very small and unable to see over the steering wheel very well."

Chance was pulled from the car after the crash with head injuries, before being flown to hospital where medics have said he is in a stable condition.

His mum told News 9 this was the fourth time the boy had stolen a car in recent days. She said that when she arrived at the hospital following the crash, he told her he had taken the car to drive to see her.

Cyndi said: "In our visits, he always asks, 'When am I gonna get to come live with you?'

"I will never give up. I will never give up until wrong is made right. Until that baby is home with his momma and with his family."

She claims she has only been able to see her son for one hour a week, but isn't giving up fighting for custody.
