Police have responded to an active shooter situation at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas, on Friday.
At least 8 people are reported to have been killed, with several others injured. It is also thought that the shooter has been arrested and detained by police.
The Santa Fe school district have released a statement that reads: "This morning an incident occurred at the high school involving an active shooter. The situation is active, but has been contained.
"There have been confirmed injuries. Details will be released as we receive updated information.
"Law enforcement will continue to secure the building and initiate all emergency management protocols to release and move students to another location. All other campuses are operating under their regular schedules."
"At this time, students from the high school are being transported by SFISD transportation to the Alamo Gym located at 13306 Highway 6. Parents may reunite with their students at this location.
"The district will continue to keep you updated as information is available. Safety and communication are our top priorities."
A student told Houston TV station KTRK: "We thought it was a fire drill at first but really, the teacher said 'start running'.
"We were in class, it was first period. The alarm started going off, everybody went outside, all the teachers were like 'get this way, get this way, come over here'. Next thing you know we hear the booms and everybody starts running as fast as they can."
The sheriff's department of the neighbouring Harris County tweeted to say that the authorities had controlled the situation.

They said: "This is no longer an active shooting situation and the injured are being treated,"
The United States President, Donald Trump, tweeted a message of condolence to those involved in the incident.
He said: "School shooting in Texas. Early reports not looking good. God bless all!"
This attack comes just a matter of months since the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that shook the United States and reignited the debate on gun control.

17 students and staff were killed in that attack in Parkland, Florida.
The death toll for this latest attack has yet to be confirmed by any of the authorities, but has been reported as high as 8.
The identities of those injured or killed are also as yet unknown. However, the Harris County sheriff's department confirmed that they were dealing with a 'multiple casualty situation'.
