It's summer, it's hot, and quite frankly, people don't want to wear a lot of clothes right now - even if it's not the solution to staying cool.

With temperatures reaching record highs across the world, people should be allowed to wear what makes them feel comfortable, no matter what their gender.

So if a girl wants to rock a pair of short shorts to the shops, she should be granted the courtesy. What she shouldn't have to endure is being harassed, publicly embarrassed, and thrown out of the store when she's just trying to go about her day.

That is unfortunately what happened to 19-year-old Gabrielle Gibson this week, who was enjoying a nice afternoon having a browse at her local shopping mall in Alabama until a security guard reportedly booted her out for wearing an 'inappropriate' outfit.

According to The Mirror, Gabrielle said she was 'feeling beautiful' before the security guard's comments left her feeling humiliated.

"When I left the house I felt beautiful and happy about myself, but having grown men attack me about what I'm wearing when I'm just trying to walk around and buy things was just so excessive," said Gabrielle.

"They didn't have to throw me out. It's a sad day when grown men can't control themselves. I just don't want anyone feeling like I did."

After the man in question pulled Gabrielle aside to make those comments about her outfit - a pair of denim shorts and a colourful top - she took to social media to highlight the incident by posting a picture of her clothes alongside the caption: "I was literally harassed and kicked out of the [shopping centre] today because of what I'm wearing.

"Apparently grown men couldn't contain themselves so I get kicked out. Security officer initiated that he was looking at my ass cheeks and it was a problem. Don't look at my ass then there's a thought?"

Gabrielle went on to claim that the shop attendants even went as far as to calling the police on her, despite the fact that she had seen numerous other shoppers wearing clothes similar to hers.

"I mean come on it's August and 100° outside. I don't know why I was pinpointed," added Gabrielle.

"I'm just disgusted with the behavior of all these people. I was just having a good time trying to look around. Everyone can share this. This whole incident has made me embarrassed."

All we can do is take our hats off to Gabrielle for refusing to stand down and for highlighting the issue on social media. It's hot as balls outside, so if a girl wants to wear shorts while going about her day, she should.
