A grieving father is still searching for answers as he claims his son's body was returned to him with most of his main organs missing.

Mike Mansholt, from Germany, was only 17-years-old when he went on his first holiday without his parents in 2016, but while enjoying his time in Malta he went missing and eventually his body was found eight days later.

When Mike's body was found the whole situation baffled investigators, it was reported by the Times of Malta that he was found at the foot of a cliff, but he had no fractures to his body and some of his belongings were missing.

The postmortems held in Malta and in Germany concluded that the teenager had no broken bones and the cause of death was never established.

Along with this, it turns out when he was found Mike was not wearing his running shoes and his rented bicycle was a few metres away. It was also noted the damage on the bike was not compatible with a fall from a height.

Eventually, his parents, Bernd and Suzanne Mansholt were returned the body of their son - who on his 18th birthday laid partially decomposed in a coffin - but, something was off with the body, it was too light, and it wasn't just down to the decomposition from being in the sun.

When Mike's parents had his body taken to the Medical University of Hannover in hope they could get some closure on how their son died, Berend claims his son was missing some of his vital organs.

He said Mike's heart, brain, neck organs, the lungs, liver, pancreas, adrenal glands, the right kidney, the bladder, the stomach and the small intestine were all reportedly missing.

Bernd told the Times of Malta the only organs found inside his son's body were his left kidney, the diaphragm, the spleen and the large intestine

In the German-performed autopsy the Mansholt's say no evidence was found that it could have been animals that have eaten the organs. Then they also claim they were told their son's body was embalmed.

The grieving parents have now filed an application before the inquiring magistrate to look into the mysterious surroundings to their son's death and postmortem.

The family want answers. They want to know how their son's organs went missing, why they hadn't been returned, why they'd been told their son may have been embalmed when there was no evidence of that and what really happened to the youngster.

It's a mystery what happened to Mike, but what is clear is a poor teen's life was cut short and under mysterious circumstances.
