President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he will deport two-to-three-million undocumented immigrants 'immediately' upon taking office on show 60 Minutes. The interview was his first major sit down since winning the election.

"What we are going to do is get the people that are criminals and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably two million - it could be even three million - we are getting them out of the country or we are going to incarcerate," Mr Trump said in an interview with 60 Minutes that will air later today.

"Be we're getting them out of the country, they're here illegally."

He also explained that when the border is 'secure', the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement will assess the status of the remaining undocumented immigrants living in the country.

"After the border is secure and after everything gets normalized, we're going to make a determination on the people that they're talking about who are terrific people, they're terrific people but we are gonna make a determination at that," he said. "But before we make that determination ... it's very important, we are going to secure our border."

During his run for president, Trump pledged to build a wall along the shared border between Mexico and the United States to prevent illegal immigration from Mexico to the US, as well as labelling Mexican migrants as 'rapists' and 'murderers'.

Trump also said the border wall, could be part wall and 'some fencing', in accordance with what congressional Republicans have proposed, CBS reported.

In September 2015 Trump told Scott Pelley: "We're going to build a wall and we're going to create a border. It's going to be a great wall and it's not going to be very expensive."

During his campaign, he also said he would temporarily ban all Muslims from entering the United States.

Earlier this week, Republican candidate Donald Trump beat his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in a national vote. He will succeed Barack Obama to become the 45th president of America in January.

The millionaire businessman - now the president-elect - will be sworn in on Friday, 20 January 2017.
