A further two men have been arrested in connection with investigations into the terrorist attack last Friday on the London Underground.

Two men, one aged 48 and the other aged 30, were detained at 5.30am this morning under the Terrorism Act by South Wales police after they were traced back to the town of Newport. The house at which they were arrested is now being searched by police, as is another address in the Gwent town.

"This continues to be a fast-moving investigation," sid Dean Haydon, head of the Metropolitan Police counter terrorism command, reports the BBC..

"A significant amount of activity has taken place since the attack on Friday. Detectives are carrying out extensive inquiries to determine the full facts behind the attack."

The attack took place shortly before 8.30am on Friday 15 September, when a homemade bomb exploded at Parsons Green tube station in Fulham. 30 people were injured in the attack, although nobody was killed.

The explosive had been left in a shopping bag by the perpetrators. The attack was immediately claimed by ISIS but as yet there is no direct link to the group, with details still to emerge about the suspected attackers - the militant group has been known to claim responsibility for such attacks, regardless of evidence of prior links.

Three arrests had been made before today's raid. Yahyah Farroukh, a Syrian national thought to be from Damascus, was arrested in Hounslow, west London, while an 18-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, was captured by police at the Port of Dover, attempting to flee the country.

The teenager was known to police and is thought to have been involved in an anti-extremism programme. Both Farroukh and the 18-year-old were in the care of the same foster family in Stanwell, Surrey.

A third man, aged 25, was arrested in Newport yesterday. Police are searching the foster home in Surrey as well as the residences in South Wales.

Little is known about the two men arrested today. A local resident told the BBC that she had seen police arrive at half-past 5 in the morning and that a man wearing a hoodie was led out from the premises an hour or so later, into the back of a waiting police van. According to the eyewitness, the men appear to have been arrested calmly and the police were not armed at the time of the arrest.
