American President Donald Trump alongside the US Military has ordered a navy strike group to move towards the Korean peninsula.

It comes as North Korea continues to boast about its missile programme.

The aircraft carrier, The Carl Vinson is 333m long and carries 90 fixed wing and helicopters, and other warships are preparing for a strike.

Trump has said that the US is prepared to act alone to deal with the nuclear threat from North Korea.

On Syria, North Korea condemned the attacks, calling it an 'unforgivable act of aggression against a sovereign state', and used such an example to justify increasing its own defences.

US Pacific Command spokesman Dave Benham said: "The number one threat in the region continues to be North Korea, due to its reckless, irresponsible, and de stabilising programme of missile tests and pursuit of nuclear weapons capability."

It was originally due to make a port call in Australia, but instead was diverted to Singapore to the west Pacific.

In recent months, North Korea has carried out several nuclear tests and experts predict more could be ordered.

They carried out these tests in the Sea of Japan, which angered the Japanese government.

Nobody is sure how far the missiles could reach, or the extent of the damage they could cause, due to bias state reporting in the secretive country.

There have been indications from Pyongyang, the country's capital, that it may test an intercontinental missile even though it's banned from doing so under UN resolutions - an order it has repeatedly ignored.

Of four known North Korean missiles: Nodong (black ring), Taepodong I (red), Musudan (yellow), and Taepondong II (purple) - it is estimated that they can reach anywhere between 1,300km and 8,000km.

Last year, North Korea claimed it could hit 'American bastards' with its missiles.

Trump, who has met this week with the Chinese President Xi Jinping, whose country trades with North Korea, said in a recent interview: "If China is not going to solve North Korea, we will."

North Korea responded, at that point, the US is pushing the situation to 'the brink of war' and said if sanctions are to continue, they will retaliate.

There are currently three known missile facilities in the country, with two nuclear test sites.
