A vehicle has hit a barricade outside of the White House, and a woman has since been held, the US's Secret Service has said.

They confirmed the news via Twitter.

The official US Secret Service account then tweeted further updates - one of which explained that the driver of the vehicle was a female, and that she was immediately apprehended by Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers.

They also said: "The vehicle did not breach the security barrier of the White House complex."

In a further update, it was confirmed that no law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident, which involved 'a vehicle hitting a barrier near the White House'. The Secret Service also said that no shots had been fired.

More to follow.
