So, bear with me here, but according to scientists, Viagra could be a miracle cure for blindness.
Yes, that's right. Apparently, the stuff that you can take if you're struggling to 'maintain your interest', if you follow me, could also help you retain your sight, reports the Mail.
Scientific tests have now shown that not only does it help stop deterioration of vision, but it also could be useful in repairing damage to your sight that has been done anyway. Big, if true.
The research was performed by Columbia University, in New York City. They reckon that Viagra could help to tackle AMD - age-related macular degeneration - significantly.
This is huge news, particularly because AMD is the UK's largest cause of loss of sight. In fact, 600,000 people are thought to have lost at least some of their vision as a result of it.
About 90 percent of those cases are from what's called dry AMD - a slower onset version - although 10 percent are what is known as wet AMD, and if you get that you could lose your sight incredibly quickly over a matter of months.
Anyway, before we get too excited, it's worth remembering that the study that has been done is a pretty small one. That doesn't mean that the results aren't interesting or relevant, mind.
One researcher said: "Viagra offers significant potential for vision retention and recovery. It is notable that patients remained visually stable and there was a significant improvement in vision in one participant."
Professor Sobha Svaprasad said: "We now need bigger studies to replicate these findings before Viagra can be used as a treatment."
Aye, it seems like there could be a decent amount of benefits to Viagra outside of the bedroom.
Viagra has also been suggested as a possible helper of a fair few ailments. Everything from dementia to heart attacks could be helped if certain people are to be believed.
The alternative for AMD is that the patient must have injections into their eyes to stop degeneration. Let me repeat that for effect - injections. In your eyes.
Anyway, of the five patients - told you it was small - the drug stopped deterioration in all and improved the sight of one. That's not bad.
You can know buy Viagra over the counter in the UK, as of March, and while we're not advocating taking it for no reason, it does seem that there are plenty of uses for it.
The problem is, you may have perfect vision, but you'll also be pitching a tent the whole time.
