A yearbook showing Florida shooting survivor David Hogg has gone viral following accusations that he was a 'crisis actor'.

Seventeen-year-old Hogg was caught up in a bizarre conspiracy theory, with some claiming he was an actor with an anti-gun agenda.

Conspiracy theorists have claimed that actors have been paid to travel to sites of mass shootings in order to advocate for gun control; most recently to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High where 19-year-old gunman Nikolas Cruz shot and killed 17 people, including 14 children.

Speaking to CNN, Hogg said: "I'm not a crisis actor.

"I'm someone who had to witness this and live through this and I continue to be having to do that."

"I'm not acting on anybody's behalf."

One account on Instagram claimed that Hogg didn't attend to the Parkland high school, saying that he had attended a school in California and graduated in 2015 - writing: "He always wanted to work for CNN and be an actor."

Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu also tweeted to dismiss the theory, writing: "THIS CONSPIRACY THEORY IS INSANE. Our kids know David Hogg. My wife and I know his mom, who taught at our kids' elementary school before they moved to Florida. Although David is very articulate, he is not a crisis actor. He is a student who lost 17 of his classmates to bullets."

Friends of Hogg have rushed to social media to blast the unfounded claims, and now, a clip of Hogg in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School yearbook has gone viral, as proof that he is who he says he is.

Hogg and his fellow students have called on the US government to introduce tighter gun controls in the US following the shootings - with Hogg saying that Americans should have the right to own weapons, as long as they are 'not going to go out and commit these atrocities'.

He added: "We have a right to live, just as we have a right to bear arms."
