Eight-year-old Gabriel Taye was found dead in his bedroom on January 26 by his mother in Ohio.

His mother had allegedly been told by school officials two days before that Gabe, as he was known, had fainted at school. He was taken to the nurse before being picked up by his mother and taken to hospital where he complained of stomach pains.

His mum's lawyers gained footage from the school showing that Gabe appears to have been attacked by older students and had lain unconscious in the locker room for several minutes before he received help.

The family's lawyer, Jennifer Branch commented to Cincinnati Enquirer: He [Gabe] actually attempts to shake the assailant's hand, and the assailant pulled him forward and slammed him into the wall, and he is knocked unconscious for seven-and-a-half minutes."

In the video, you can see Gabe surrounded by bigger students although it's hard to identify them. He reaches out to shake one of their hands and ends up on the floor. Many other students walk over him, and one even kicks his stomach.

Within 48 hours, he had hanged himself.

According to a police officer connected to the case, the surveillance captured 'bullying and could even rise to the level of criminal assault'.

It is not known what the repercussions have been for the students involved, but within the city there has been an increased awareness of bullying as a problem.

Gabe's mother, Cornelia Reynolds, has spoken about how her son never told her that he was being bullied.

Reynolds said: "I guess he didn't know how to tell me stuff was happening. Him going to the nurse's station or him not wanting to go to school, that was his way of trying to communicate with me. That was his way.

"He probably didn't want to say, 'Ma, somebody's bullying or picking on me,' you know? He just didn't know how to tell me."

Reynolds and her lawyer are investigating whether the bullying was what led Gabe to commit suicide and has suggested that the school may have been guilty of neglect.
