The death of Osama bin Laden was seven years ago next month, but according to sources high up in the US government, images of his dead body will never be released, reports Business Insider.
High-level sources within the US intelligence community have reportedly said that photographs that do exist of the corpse of Osama bin Laden.
However, it is claimed that they will not be published because they show that the US forces that killed the Al Qaeda leader were not following correct protocol at the time and fired far more bullets into bin Laden than they should have.
Matt Bissonette was one of the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group - aka DEVGRU, an elite Navy Seal unit - later wrote a book about his involvement in the killing of Osama bin Laden, 'No Easy Day', which shed light on the particulars of the 2nd of May 2011.

"In his death throes, he was still twitching and convulsing," wrote Bissonnette under the pseudonym Mark Owen.
"Another assaulter and I trained our lasers on his chest and fired several rounds. The bullets tore into him, slamming his body into the floor until he was motionless."

Given the international scandal that followed the leaked release of footage from the execution of Saddam Hussein, it is understandable that the US government wished to avoid the inevitable criticism that would follow if they were to publish the images that do exist of bin Laden's corpse.
