Some pretty horrible footage has emerged that shows a woman riding electric scooter being hit by a car, then falling off and going straight down an open manhole.
As far as accidents go, this woman must be cursing her luck. It's a serious piece of bad fortune to not only get hit by the moving vehicle, but then to also end up taking a tumble into the sewers for good measure.
Mercifully, the woman was not seriously injured and the end of the footage shows her being removed from the hole, but - you know - it can't have been a particularly nice incident for her to say the least.
The woman was travelling down a road in Hangzhou, in Zhejiang Province, Eastern China. She was trying to make a right turn when a white saloon car ploughed straight into her. It wasn't going fast, but it was enough to knock her off course and off the electric bike.
From there it was only a short slide before she went tumbling head first into the manhole, where two workers were performing sanitation tasks.
The two sanitation workers, as well as the driver of the white car, tried to help her out of the hole, but were unable to properly help and eventually had to give way to higher authorities.
Thankfully, there were two security force officers on hand to help her out of the manhole - it's a good job that they were there.
The woman suffered only cuts and bruises to her arms and legs, which - given that she got hit by a car and then had a bad fall - isn't too bad. She was taken to hospital in the back of an ambulance and can count herself both very lucky and incredibly unlucky.
We don't know what was at the bottom of the manhole, or what the manhole leads to, but it doesn't take Mystic Meg to realise that whatever is down there, it's probably not nice.
I'd just make an educated guess that whatever is down there, it will be something that you wouldn't particularly relish the chance to plunge headfirst into after being thrown from your bike.
Either way, let's hope that the woman has made a full and swift recovery from both her injuries, and the embarrassment of falling into a sewer.
So far, the authorities haven't charged anyone with any crimes relating to the incident. Their investigation is still ongoing.
