WARNING - some of these photos are quite graphic, so if you've got a sensitive stomach you might want to give them a miss.

A number of US women say they were given botched lip fillers, which left them with painful, oozing lips.

The women say they all used the same cut-price practitioner on 3 August at the injector's home in Maricopa, Arizona.

However, they now know that cheap doesn't always mean cheerful, after they were left with swollen lips, cold sores and pus oozing out of their new plumped up pouts.

The women say the injections left them swollen and sore.

According to Fox 10 Phoenix, the women say the injector told them she was fully licensed and that they'd been shown 'before and after' photos of her previous work, so assumed they were in safe hands.

But just hours after going under the needle their lips started to swell uncontrollably.

The woman was allegedly charging just $80 (£65) per millilitre of filler, whereas the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery suggests that, on average, a properly licensed surgeon usually charges around $620 (£510).

Usually, lip fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, with sits underneath the skin and is gradually broken down by the body - hence the need for regular 'top ups'.

Alexandra Garaventa, who claims to have been left injured after the botched fillers told Fox 10 Phoenix: "It was cheaper - that's not the smartest thing - but since I had seen so many people and my friend had been going for a year.

"She was telling people that she was certified to do lip injections and since I [had] seen other people's [lips], I had decided why not go."

The news outlet reports that at least seven women went to the woman's home on 3 August for the injections.

Garaventa added: "Right after I left getting my lips done, an hour later, my lips got huge, like, giant." She claims the injections caused an infection.

Meanwhile, her pal Ashleigh Villaverde, who also had the fillers, said she knew straight away something had gone 'wrong'.

Villaverde, who has had fillers in the past, told Fox: "The pain after was so bad, I couldn't even feel my lips.

"We couldn't even sit there and go to bed, our lips were throbbing."

The woman went to hospital where they say doctors weren't even sure what they had been injected with.

Nayhely McLaughlin, who also says she had the injections, added: "When I came in [to the hospital], they already knew what was going on."

Now the women are left waiting to find out if there will be any permanent effects from the fillers.

The Maricopa Police Department has been notified about the incident and is investigating, according to the Daily Mail.
