Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi has been named the best water park in the world, and with 40 rides and attractions, a water cinema and the Middle East's longest suspended rollercoaster, it's hardly difficult to see why.

The water park was awarded the coveted title at the World Travel Awards in Lisbon, where other nominees in the category included Orlando's Typhoon Lagoon and Spain's Siam Park.

Managed and operated by Farah Experiences, the Yas Waterworld bills itself as an 'iconic must-visit destination that promises legendary adventures'.

Categorised by 'thrill level', some of the biggest rides include Shaheen's Adrenaline Rush (extreme), Dhabi's Exciting Adventure (high), Hamlool's Moving & Grooving (medium), and Sultan's Young Fun (low).

There's also Al Raha River, Cannon Point, YadiYas Crazy River, Slithers Slides, Marah Fortress, AmwajWAve Pool and a mermaid school, along with Cinesplash, the region's first ever water cinema where the room features waterfalls, moving seats and water explosions and floods up to your knees with water.

Bianca Sammut, General Manager of Yas Waterworld, who accepted the award at the ceremony, said: "We love this park, and to have that love reciprocated by fans around the world means everything to us.

"Since the day we opened Yas Waterworld's doors, we've been on a mission to provide one-of-a-kind experiences to families from across the globe, and this award is recognition of that mission bearing fruit.

"We are committed to continuously upgrading the park, keeping it at the forefront of entertainment and leisure innovation, and creating special water adventures and memories that last a lifetime."

Yas Island - where Yas Waterworld is based - was also awarded World's Leading Tourism Development Project 2018 at the ceremony.

Mind you, the most recent awards are just one of many for the complex, as Yas Waterworld has also earnt itself more than 30 industry accolades in its time - having been voted the voted the second-best themed water park in the world by the Los Angeles Times back in 2013, as well as winning a Leading Edge award by the World Waterpark Association.

Earlier this year, it was also inducted into the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame and was named the Middle East's Leading Waterpark at the World Travel Awards.

Right, who's got me for Secret Santa? Reckon that budget will stretch to a return ticket to Abu Dhabi?
