A 20-year-old woman has given a horrifying first-hand account of what happened after a 'bomb' exploded in a suspected act of terrorism at Manchester Arena on Monday night.

An explosion at the arena killed 22 people and also injured at least 59 people in a horrendous tragedy at the 21,000-capacity venue, police have confirmed.

Eye-witnesses have described how the explosion is thought to have occurred in a foyer inside the arena as an Ariana Grande concert was finishing.

And now Erin McDougle, from Newcastle in the north east of England, has relived the frightening scenes.

She told 9News: "It was just very, very scary to hear a massive bomb go off in such a crowded venue, is like nothing I've ever experienced before in my life. Just very scary and I'm still pretty shook by it all."

Ms McDougle, who was attending the concert with a friend, added: "We were just getting up to leave, but not at the exit where the bomb went off.

"However, when it went off everybody just started running and sprinting in the opposite direction, so that made everybody around me sprint towards the nearest exit. It was just hectic.

"I didn't know where to go. I was so scared that the stairwell that we went on was going to go up or be affected somehow.

"Like you don't know who is in the crowd or what has been, I don't know, rigged or anything, so it was all just very scary and I just grabbed on to my friend's hand and tried to get out the best we could."

Earlier, Grande shared her devastating response to the suspected terrorist attack at her sold-out concert.

The US singer has since posted on Twitter to share her immense upset at the horrifying attack which police have confirmed is being treated as terrorism.

The concert was attended by lots of teenagers and young children.

An emergency number is available for those who are concerned about loved ones or anyone who may have been in the area - 0161 856 9400.
