Incredible Maldives-style over-water lodges have just opened in the UK

These floating pods look like the Maldives, despite being set in the North Devon countryside

If you want to go to the Maldives, but are balling on a significantly lower budget, how about these lovely floating cabins in Devon that are sort of similar, if in many ways completely different?

OK, so you aren’t guaranteed the sort of weather that you’d probably get in the Maldives in Devon, but if you picked the right sort of time to go then you’d still have a lovely time.

You won’t even need your passport, either.

These floating lodges are fairly easy on the old wallet as well, coming in at only £52 per person per night.

There are 80 acres of land around the Clawford Lakes Resort and Spa, which is near Holsworthy in North Devon.

Amongst those acres sit these floating lodges jutting out into a lovely blue lake, complete with hot tubs.

As you can see, it's quite nice looking.

The luxury self-catering accommodation at the holiday park promises to bring a taste of the Maldives to the south of England, without breaking the bank of those who wish to stay there.

There are 17 lakes in total around the holiday park, making the lodges perfect for those who like to relax with a bit of fishing, or just those who want to lounge around in comfort.

If by chance you don’t fancy victimising a defenceless creature, that’s presumably fine as well.

Once you’ve soaked up the atmosphere on the floating terrace, which is where you’re allowed to fish from, by the way, you can head on over to the pool and spa complex that the site boasts.

There are outdoor activities on offer, including paddle boarding, cycling, and – as we’ve covered – angling.

When you get hungry, there’s also a bar and restaurant on site that offers up fayre that contains ‘the very best local produce’.

Around North Devon, you’d imagine that local produce would be pretty good, too.

It ain't the Maldives, but it ain't bad either.
Clawford Lakes

The accommodation on site can be booked through Hoseasons holidays and they’ll start the pricing at £309 per person for a week, which means that you could get a fairly affordable getaway in the countryside for the whole family, right there.

The floating pods come in at £415 per person for a week, clocking in at an affordable £52 per night.

The site is just 22 miles to the north of Dartmoor, and not a million miles away from the Cornwall hotspots of Padstow, Bude, and St Ives.

Lakeshore Leisure Group CEO Stephen Twiss told the Daily Mirror: “Set in this incredible rural valley, Clawford Lakes Resort and Spa has an amazing 30 acres of lakes and is quite simply the perfect canvas to design a very special self-catering holiday experience.

"With UK holidays growing in popularity, we wanted to offer a new benchmark of quality for Devon’s visitors and holiday home-owners."

If fishing is your thing, you'll love it.
Clawford Lakes

"By being incredibly sensitive to the beautiful natural site we have, respecting the habitats of the wildlife and supporting the local community, we’ve created a holiday destination that rivals the fashionable outdoor getaways typically seen outside the UK.

"Clawford Lakes Resort and Spa is all about connecting with the outdoors, taking time to take a breath and enjoy the natural world, whilst enjoying stunning well-designed accommodation and facilities that really make the most of the views surrounding you.”
